For the Royal Pains packaging in 2010, our primary focus was on the four main characters and their interactions and relationships. Each of the sets of characters has a different kind of relationship with the others: Hank and Jill have their relationship tensions. Evan and Divya have almost a rival sibling relationship. Divya and Hank have more of a heroic duo professional demeanor. And of course Hank and Evan and their brotherly yet clashing personalities. We didn't need to portray Hank as a doctor quite as strongly as we had in the last season, so we pulled back a bit on the doctor references.
One major thing we wanted to do was to feature the Hamptons as our location, but not in a manner that focused too much on the over the top opulence that one tends to find there. We will took bits of texture: dune fence and sea grass, whitewashed wood, and kept the atmosphere summery, but in a way that suggests a beach in the northeast.
Modern architecture has been a great tool for framing the portraiture that we rely on as the backbone of the USA Network packaging, so for the 2010 Royal Pains packaging we built out a stylized version of a beach house, and also used an existing hotel as one of our locations.
Relationships, texture, portraits, dynamic interaction, subtle gestures, and small details were all blended together in a wonderful mix for the summer return of Royal Pains.

For the premiere season of Royal Pains, we wanted to communicate the essentials of the show: Dr. Hank Lawson, recently excommunicated from the top tier of the medical community in New York City is now working as a concierge doctor to the conspicuously wealthy community of East Hampton.
